Donna Ferrato

For over twenty years, Donna Ferrato has documented with pictures the effects of domestic violence on abusive women and their children. Ferrato photographs in emergency rooms and shelters, courtrooms and activist meetings, abused people and women in detention centers, and aims to expose the "dark side of family life." Collected in the exhibition and publication "Living with the Enermy" (Aperture 1991), these groundbreaking images are linked to texts by the photographer that are drawn from her conversations with the victims and perpetrators. In addition to a selection of prints from "Living with the Enermy", the ICP also has an extensive archive of Ferrato's own research materials related to domestic violence as well as the creation of this ambitious and ongoing photographic object.
This is a fantastic documentation research material that Donna Ferrato has made and which is an ongoing photographic object. And at the same time so frighteningly awful, but the harsh reality for the women and children who are exposed to violence in their homes. Something is seriously wrong when women who are victims of violence have to go underground while the perpetrators go free. Women should be protected not hidden. women-should-be-protected-not-groomed. A common reaction to violence in relationships is usually why not just leave, but do not think about what alternatives there are, to put up with the violence or not to exist at all. And this is due to serious shortcomings that exist in the system that the woman must get through in the propensity to report.
I am a man myself, but have never understood me on the men who behave in this way, you start a relationship, a family and then expose it to violence, for me incomprehensible and inhuman, take care of you . Street Scene //// Robert G

Photojournalism in Time Är det senaste webb verktyg inom Street Scene Worldwide photo group.
